August 5, 2021 To Our Beloved Clients, Patients, Friends and Colleagues, This last year has seen an unprecedented increase in the need for veterinary services across the entire nation and Beaufort County is certainly no exception. We have seen a dramatic increase in our numbers of appointments and emergencies. In addition, we have recently lost two associate veterinarians, making it more difficult to accommodate the increase in demand for care. Our entire staff is working at their maximum capacity to help all pets that present to us, but we find ourselves still unable to see all the pets in a suitable timeframe to insure appropriate care. In an effort to try and accommodate an increased volume of pets in a more timely fashion we feel the need to offer additional hours. However, we will no longer be able to see after-hours emergencies beginning September 1, 2021. Our schedule is currently booked out 3 months in advance, which we feel is an unacceptable length of time for our patients to wait to be seen. To try and handle the increased demand we will be offering additional hours for urgent care cases only, on Sundays from 2p-6p. We will still see emergencies during regular business hours, however, clients in need of after-hours emergency care should contact one of the following emergency clinics: Pet Emergency Clinic, Greenville, NC 252-321-1521 Points East Emergency, Wilson, NC 252-991-6560 BluePearl Pet Hospital, Virginia Beach, VA 757-499-5463 We feel that our first and foremost responsibility is to provide urgent and non-emergent veterinary care to our present and future patients. The emergency hospitals referenced above are able to provide true emergency care with overnight monitoring, a service we are unable to provide at this time. We are writing this letter in an effort to be transparent with our situation and communicate the circumstances we are facing. We do not make this decision lightly. As a community we have all had to deal with extraordinary circumstances, and we want to thank you for your patience over the past year and your continued patience as we search for additional associate veterinarians to join our team. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. Sincerely,
Marty Poffenberger, DVM Amy Martin, DVM Rebecca Ipock, CVPM Practice Owner Practice Owner Practice Manager
